Apple just held a major “education-focused” event today in Chicago. Upon the announcement of the event, some speculated the launch of a new iPad geared more towards customers in education.
Looks like those reports are right, as the company announced a new, cheaper (for teachers and students) iPad. The new tablet will now be compatible with the Apple Pencil (also discounted for schools) and has an updated A10 processor, but other than that its specs are very standard and familiar with a regular $329 iPad. There are some updates to its features (iWork, Numbers, Pages, and Keynote) that will support the Apple Pencil.
To go along with a new iPad, Apple also launched a new, third-party stylus by Logitech, the Logitech Crayon. The Logitech Crayon will be a cheaper alternative to the $99 Apple Pencil, selling exclusively to schools for $49. Apple also announced a Logitech iPad keyboard and rugged case set. The case will retail for $99.99, and buyers can get their hands on both products this summer.
Apple also launched new products and updates in software, such as a new app called “Schoolwork” that lets teachers hand out assignments to students digitally, with attached web links and files if needed.
