Looks like Google is interested in expanding the uses for its Maps app. Today, they have announced that they are making their mapping platform available to developers of location-based games. This follows the release of several games (Jurassic World, The Walking Dead: Our World, and Ghostbusters World) that have partnered with Maps to use their 3D data.

This will make creating 3D map-models much easier as developers can simply just pick and choose from Maps’ huge platform that includes “100 million 3D buildings” to customize and create their own environment.

Google has also announced the release of their AR-based SDK, ARCore and is currently developing a separate SDK for Unity, one of the world’s leading game development platforms. You can find more information about the extensive APIs and their partnership with Unity at Google’s Developer website.
