Sony produces an upgraded megapixel image sensor for upcoming smartphones

Today, Sony introduced “World First Ultra-compact Pixel Size of 0.8 μm” which is made for smartphone cameras that will be launched by next year.

The new image sensor has a model name of IMX586. The image sized has 8.0 mm diagonal with a 1/2-type and 48 effective megapixel*2 stacked CMOS image sensor. The Sony IMX586 has a much-like performance of SLR cameras because of more than 40 megapixels that can capture an image with a high-resolution using a smartphone. The sensor includes the Quad Bayer color filter which can help with a low-light image to adjust the pixels, having a low-noise 12 megapixel, high sensitivity and a high-quality of an image as a result.

The company planned the new Sony image sensor to be shipped by September this year. The price starts at ¥3,000. It was also said that it will debut in the Xperia XZ3.
