Sports Illustrated previously reported that ESPN is raising the price of its standalone ESPN Plus streaming service from $6.99 to $9.99 per month, a 43 per cent increase since August 23. The price of the annual plan will also increase from $69.99 to $99.99.If you get your streaming ESPN service as a part of the Disney bundle, however, which packages Disney Plus, ESPN Plus, and ad-supported Hulu for $13.99 per month (including Hulu without ads takes the price to $19.99 per month), that will remain at the same price as before. The service’s website and support pages haven’t been updated to reflect the increase yet, but a statement sent over by Disney spokesperson Paul Melvin indicates subscribers will be notified next week.

The price change shows how flexible switching between services and packages is becoming, as we move beyond the traditional cable package, access is not as cheap as it once seemed. Last year, ESPN Plus already raised the price (doubled), and now it has increased even more dramatically. ESPN says content deals increasingly include an ESPN Plus component as well as access to editorial content that subscribers receive on its website. However, if you’ve been dreaming of uninterrupted access to a full stream of games, it’s closer than ever, and Disney’s prices will entice you to pick up this bundle, even if you don’t really want to.
