Former Delhi school student Nand Mulchandani is appointed as CIA’s first tech officer

It is indeed a proud moment for India as another Indian has raised the country’s flag abroad. Technology expert Nand Mulchandani has been appointed as the first CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the US. CIA director William J. Burns confirmed his appointment in the the US spy agency via social media.

A Silicon Valley IT specialist of Indian origin, Mulchandani was a former student of Bluebells School International in Delhi. Later on, he completed his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Math from Cornell. He also holds a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard and a degree of Master of Science in Management from Stanford.

Before his appointment in the CIA, Mulchandani was working as the CTO and the acting director of the Department of Defence’s artificial intelligence centre. He has also been active in the field of entrepreneurship and is the co-founder and CEO of multiple successful startups like OpenDNS (acquired by Cisco), ScaleXtreme (acquired by Citrix), Determina (acquired by VMware) and Oblix (acquired by Oracle). Apart from this, he also served as an entrepreneur-in-residence and advised several companies regarding product and growth strategies through capital firm Accel Partners.

The CIA released a statement that Mulchandani, who has more than 25 years of experience, will now make sure that the agency goes ahead in its mission by taking advantage of state-of-the-art technology. Burns also commented that he has always focused on technology and is very glad that Nand is joining the team and bringing his valuable experience in his new role.

Mulchandani also seems pretty excited about this responsibility and said he is honored to be joining the CIA in his new role. He added that he is looking forward to working with the incredible team of the agency who are experts in technology and their respective domains.
