Google has announced a slew of new initiatives in India aimed at keeping users safe. According to the American technology behemoth, as more people in India embrace the digital economy and ecosystem. However, it is critical to raise awareness about online safety.

According to Sanjay Gupta, Country Head of Google India, their campaign partners will further propagate awareness around these precautions. They will use their own consumer channels such as website, apps, SMS, and ATMs.”

Google’s multilingual campaign against digital fraud would encourage people to take basic precautions. This will enable them to avoid the most common fraud and phishing attacks. With the growth of digital transactions and users, the risk of online fraud and cybersecurity attacks has increased.

Google has launched the Protecting Children initiative in an effort to keep children safe

To mitigate these risks, the company has launched several online initiatives:

  • A child safety toolkit will be available on the Google website in three Indian languages: Bengali, Hindi, and Tamil.
  • Be Internet Awesome is a free online programme that teaches kids how to be smart and safe internet users.
  • The technology behemoth has teamed up with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to expand its Be Internet Awesome initiative.
  • The search engine is teaming up with Meity and Digital India to create a multilingual user awareness campaign. However, it will run across India.
  • HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, Airtel, SBI, and ICICI would all support the campaign.
  • Fraudsters frequently target senior citizens. However, it is done to put efforts to keep seniors and other vulnerable populations safe.
  • To keep senior citizens safe, the company has made a grant to HelpAge India to provide digital safety training to 50,000 people.
  • Google has announced a USD2 million grant to three non-profit organisations in order to provide better digital skilling support to its women and LGBTQIA+ customers. Collective Good Foundation (CGF), HelpAge India, and Point of View are the organisations involved.
  • The collaboration with CGF aims to reach over 900,000 women and LGBTQIA+ people. Therefore, they bring specially designed online safety training and resources.

Additionally, Google is collaborating with Sheroes, a women’s community platform. It aims at providing a 10-part customised online safety video series to its members. This on-demand curriculum, which is currently available in English and Hindi. It will focus on the fundamentals of online safety. Additionally, it includes password protection, avoiding suspicious emails, and other ways to stay safe online.
