There is an updated lists of the best VR games on each platform, including Quest, Rift, SteamVR, and PSVR. However, as the industry grows, the content library appears to be strong enough to compile each of those lists into a master list of the best VR games of all time. However, if you are looking for the best VR games on specific platforms, check out our lists below.

Half-Life Alyx (PC VR)

1. Half-Life: Alyx (PC VR)

Half-Life: Alyx is not technically Half-Life 3, but it is a full-fledged adventure worthy of the series’ previous installments. As Alyx Vance, you fight your way through City 17 in a VR adventure that relies on some of the series’ classic elements while also introducing a slew of new ones.

It is 10+ hours of AAA-level VR shootouts, puzzles, and story design. It is not as revolutionary as Bone works or Walking Dead, but it has some of the best firefights you can have inside a headset and some truly memorable moments. Half-Life: Alyx is undoubtedly one of the best virtual reality games to date, and we hope to see more from Valve in the future.

The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners (PC VR, PSVR, Quest)

2. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (PC VR, PSVR, Quest)

The Walking Dead has some of the best VR design and user interaction, but Saints & Sinners outperforms it. With Bone works-style, physics-based combat that has you wrestling with hordes of undead, this raises the bar for VR zombie games.

But this is not your typical sandbox or wave-based survival game (though it now has that too). Saints & Sinners packs a lot of action into a long, meaty VR campaign that takes you through the ruins of New Orleans. Add in human enemies, side missions, and the ability to kill zombies with a spoon, and you have one of the most in-depth native VR games on the market.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission (PSVR)

3. Astro Bot Rescue Mission (PSVR)

When Sony Japan’s Playroom VR compilation debuted on PSVR in 2016, everyone agreed that the third-person platforming minigame in which a small robot saved his friends with the help of the player deserved its own title. Astro Bot is the result of those requests, and it is even better than many expected. 26 levels of Mario-quality platforming await you here.

It may sound exaggerated, but each of Astro Bot’s levels contains new ideas that range from endearingly novel to truly ground-breaking. It is an absolute joy to play from start to finish, and it never ceases to amaze you. Plus, the bond you will form with Astro on this adventure has the potential to break down barriers between players and characters in ways never seen before in gaming. As a result, we are crowning it as one of the best VR games of all time.

4. Superhot VR (PC VR, PSVR, Quest)

Superhot is, without a doubt, the most immediately rewarding VR game to play. The original flatscreen version was fantastic, but by incorporating your entire body into this groundbreaking shooter, the developer completely flips the game on its head. Superhot brings home the physicality of virtual reality and what it means for gaming. It is an experience in which you are conscious of every part of your body. It also makes it incredibly easy to feel cool in VR; every handgun catch or ninja star toss comes with an incredible strand of slick satisfaction that you will not find anywhere else. Superhot VR is currently the gold standard for VR shooters and one of the best VR games in our opinion.

Demeo (Quest, PC VR)

5. Demeo (Quest, PC VR)

Demeo is far from a perfect tabletop game. You choose a class and fight through randomly generated dungeons, but due to the game’s punishing difficulty, sessions can last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. Demeo is already one of the best VR games, but with more content on the way, including new dungeons and features, it can only get better.

Pistol Whip (PC VR, PSVR, Quest)

6. Pistol Whip (PC VR, PSVR, Quest)

Pistol Whip may be the new kid on the block, but its sharpshooting, sharp-sounding, beat-based gameplay is more hypnotic than Beat Saber. In this neon-lit shooter, you blast bad guys to grizzly tunes while avoiding incoming fire and trying to rack up the highest score to the beat.

Pistol Whip’s key is to draw inspiration not only from the VR sales king, but also from Superhot and, most notably, John Wick. Whereas Beat Saber aims to transform you into a dancing Jedi master, Pistol Whip aims to teach you gun-fu in style, elegantly fusing the rhythmic and cinematic into its own pulsating, vibrant monster. Pistol Whip is without a doubt one of the best VR games.

Boneworks (PC VR)

7. Boneworks (PC VR)

Boneworks completely transforms the game, not only for VR combat but also for world design, with fantastic puzzles that require player ingenuity to solve. Take a close look at Boneworks, as it has laid the groundwork for the future of VR gaming and is one of the best VR games available. It is one of the best Index games because of the knuckles support.

Resident Evil VR (Quest 2)

8. Resident Evil 4 VR (Quest 2)

Resident Evil 7 may be the more visually appealing of the two, but this meticulously crafted port of arguably the best Resident Evil game to date stands out in other ways. Armature went back to implement VR at a meticulous level, with motion-controlled aiming, physical attacks, and new interactions to truly guide you through Leon’s journey. Resident Evil 4 VR is still a 2D port, with a lot of virtual window watching and some annoying QTEs, but it captures the intensity of the original game in a new way.

Asgard’s Wrath (Rift)

9. Asgard’s Wrath (Rift)

Asgard’s Wrath is the pinnacle of native VR gaming. It has a lengthy, 30-plus hour campaign filled with secrets to discover and eye candy to gaze at. It has a refined menu and combat system that immerses you in the beautiful world of Norse mythology. More importantly, it contains incredible moments of heart-pounding action, intense connection, and profound growth that could only be achieved in a virtual reality game. As a result, it is one of the best VR games.

Lone Echo/Echo VR (Rift, Quest (Echo VR Only))

10. Lone Echo/Echo VR (Rift, Quest (Echo VR Only))

Lone Echo and Echo VR are two of the most immersive and engaging VR experiences available today. They make for one of the best VR games to date when combined (which they essentially are on Rift because the latter is free). This is a completely immersive, atmospheric thrill ride with the highest production values on the platform. Lone Echo delivers a tight campaign with thoughtful interactions and a compelling narrative by utilizing amazing zero-gravity traversal and building a relationship between the player, a robot named Jack, and his captain, Olivia. Echo VR employs the same control scheme in one of VR’s most immediately enjoyable multiplayer experiences that is unlike anything found in traditional gaming.
