Tope Awotona, the 40-year-old Founder and Chief Executive of Calendly is one of the richest immigrants in America right now. Calendly is a scheduling software that helps lead a better, productive, and happier life. He says and I quote, “You call it on message, I call it the truth”. And hence, the truth is that everybody needs Calendly.

Tope Awotona commenced Calendly nine years ago with all the life savings that he had. He started the business with $200,000 after he quit his job from EMC. Now Calendly has over 10 million users and counts Lyft, Ancestry.com, Indiana University, etc. Moreover, the company’s revenue last year was over $100 million, double the previous year. There are chances that it could double again this year. Awotona founded the company in Atlanta, though there aren’t any physical offices there now. Last year, the company raised $350 million funding from Overview Venture Partners and Iconiq Capital. However, Calendly is a very simple, user-friendly, and very sleek software. It doesn’t have the scheduling business itself. Nonetheless, there are several competitions in the market.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, in a middle class family, he is now one of the richest immigrants in America. He moved to Atlanta in 1996 at the age of 15. Awotona has studied computer science from the University of Atlanta, then later on took management as a course. The seed that he planted years ago has now bloomed into a fruitful tree.
