YouTube announced “Corrections,” a new feature that allows artists to easily address problems in their films. The feature allows creators to add information cards with pertinent timestamps to the top-right corner of a video to identify all corrections made after it went live.

Everyone makes mistakes, but it might be difficult to fix a fact or a statement in a YouTube video if you make a mistake. You can re-upload the video after editing it, but you’ll lose all of your comments and engagement data. Although you can add a note to the video’s description or pin a comment with the correction, most people are unlikely to notice. All of these solutions are subpar and have substantial disadvantages. YouTube’s new Corrections feature provides a standard approach for producers while also allowing viewers to find all updates in one place.

The functionality shows as a View corrections information card in the top-right corner of the video, as previously indicated. It only appears for the first adjustment in the video, but viewers can click on it for more information and to see any following corrections. All edits will include a timestamp and some clarifying text to enable viewers quickly skip to the revised area of the video.

Corrections

By the end of this month, all YouTube producers will have access to the Corrections function. The feature, however, will not be available if there are any active strikes on a channel or if the content is inappropriate for some users. If you’re a YouTube creator who wants to make adjustments to your video, go to YouTube’s help page for the feature and follow the steps to get started. You may also learn more about the functionality by watching the video posted above.

The feature is a little clumsy, but it is undeniably beneficial. YouTube shouldn’t have creators choose between correcting the record and letting their videos perform as well as possible, thus any tool that allows them to do both is welcome.
