Facebook’s new section for users who have passed away

Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer of Facebook, announced the new feature that will let users view a memorialized profile every month who have passed away.

The New Tributes section has a new tab which is separated on memorialized user profiles where both friends and family can post on their timeline. The separated original timeline of the user will remain as it is so that visitors will have to see the old posts of the memorialized account. Both friends and family of the account have access to write a post and share photos of their loved ones to its separated tributes tab. The new section has a short description, “Share stories, commemorate special day or let friends and family know you’re thinking about her.”

Facebook confirmed that they are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) that will help them make memorialized the account. The company is only allowing user’s friends and family to request for memorialized the account.
