According to leaked documents obtained by German tech news site WinFuture, Google is working on a standalone AR headset powered by a Qualcomm processor.
The document says that the project is called the “A65” around Google and will run on either a custom Qualcomm QCS603 or a QCS605 chip. The chip will support OpenGL, OpenCL, and Vulkan graphics. The headset will include Bluetooth, GPS, Wireless AC Connectivity, with cameras and microphones attached. The headset will be manufactured by Taiwanese company Quanta.
Google is obviously no stranger to AR headsets as they had previously launched the Google Glass back in 2013 but unfortunately was not well-received. Google had also partnered up with Lenovo to develop the Mirage Solo, a standalone VR headset that had just released two weeks ago.
