Gemini, the AI-powered app developed by Google, can now be used on older Android operating systems. A recent report revealed that the app is now compatible with Android 10, which is a significant development. Previously, only devices running Android 12 and newer versions were compatible with the app.

Google has not made an official announcement about this expansion. However, various tech publications have confirmed that the features of the Gemini app are working seamlessly across different versions of Android. Therefore, users of older devices can now access the same features and capabilities as those who use newer Android versions.

One interesting aspect is that since the Gemini app’s features remain consistent, it could potentially replace Google Assistant as the on-device assistant. However, it is uncertain whether the AI Assistant features are identical across all Android versions.

Currently, Gemini’s AI Assistant can handle basic tasks and on-device functionalities. However, its capabilities are limited as it does not have access to third-party apps. For instance, if you want to send a message via WhatsApp using Gemini, it will redirect the task to Google Assistant. Nevertheless, Google is working to enhance the AI Assistant’s capabilities. Future updates might enable Gemini to interact with third-party apps like Spotify and YouTube Music, allowing users to enjoy a more seamless experience.
