Your Apple ID is your key to using Apple’s integrated ecosystem of services, including the App Store, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime and Apple Music. It is necessary to set up any new Apple device. As with any other password, if you believe it may have been compromised, you should change it immediately. We also recommend changing it every few months to keep it safe. When choosing a new password, you should consider a password that is at least eight characters long and contains at least one number, one uppercase letter, and one lowercase letter. Last year’s password cannot be reused. Here are the steps to change your Apple ID password. Note that these only work if your current password is known. If you have completely forgotten it, you will need to go through the Apple password process, which you can start from your Apple devices.

  1. On your iPad, iPhone, or Apple Watch, go to Settings, tap on your name at the top, and choose Password & Security.
  2. Choose Change Password.
  3. You’ll be prompted to enter your device passcode and then enter a new password and confirm it.
  4. Tap Change.
  5. Back at the main Settings screen, sign in with your new password to access Apple features and services.
