Leaked documents found by MacRumors earlier today reveal that Apple’s newest iOS update has caused disabled microphones in some iPhone 7 and 7 Plus units.
Users online have noted problems using their microphone after having downloaded iOS 11.3 or any version after. The document that was sent to the Apple Authorized Service Providers branch confirms Apple’s awareness of the issue.
The document from Apple instructs their tech support employees to first ask customers to turn off or disconnect any audio accessories attached to the phone. If their customer’s phone is still disabled, then workers must run the phone through audio diagnostics. iPhone 7 or 7 Plus models that have exceeded the warranty period can “request an exception” for the issue, but it is unclear whether repairs will be free or charged.
Apple has yet to acknowledge the issue publicly.
