Google will formally unveil the Pixel 7a at the Google I/O 2023 event in just nine days. While there is much anticipation for the new phone, there have been growing worries among fans about what will happen to the ‘a’ series in the future. After all, there’s a good chance that this won’t be the last time Google offers a budget-friendly Pixel phone.

Who knows how? Google has, however, brought the ‘a’ series model a lot closer to the standard versions with the Pixel 7a. The phone will launch with a $499 price tag, according to the rumours. To provide you with more information, the Google Pixel 7 costs $599. Therefore, the ‘a’ series model is theoretically no longer a “budget-friendly” choice.

Similar Specs With A Big Price Difference Might Not Be Ideal For Most

The discussion over the Pixel 7a being the final Google “a” phone thus began with a tweet written by Yogesh Brar. The well-known tipper noted that the Google Pixel 7a would be the last model in the line of reasonably priced Google Pixel phones. And it totally makes sense given the increased pricing trend the lineup has been experiencing.

The “budget-friendly” Pixel phones are, of course, getting more and more sophisticated as the price goes up. For instance, the Google Pixel 7a has a Tensor G2 that has been overclocked. Additionally, the leaked Geekbench score indicates that it will have greater power than the Pixel 7 standard model.

Additionally, keep in mind that Google released the Pixel ‘a’ series for a very important reason. Specifically, to provide a great experience comparable to that of Pixel phones at a price significantly lower than that of high-end Pixel models. The ‘a’ phones from the past also had mid-range specifications. But the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a brought about a paradigm shift.

The chipset in those two phones was the same. The difference between the “budget-friendly” phone and the flagship got even smaller with the release of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a. And as was already mentioned, the Google Pixel 7a caused things to spiral out of control.

Google Pixel 8A Might Not Be A Thing In Future

Similar specifications are one thing, but the product line is absurd if Google cannot maintain the ‘a’ series phone prices. As I noted previously, there will be a $100 pricing difference between the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7a. The price gap between a flagship and a low-cost alternative is insufficient to differentiate them.

What might the Pixel lineup appear as in the future? Google will probably remain with a three-phone lineup, as Brar mentioned. In other words, a base Pixel phone, a Pro model, and a foldable phone will all be available. Brar also predicted that Samsung phones would experience the same issue.
