The OnePlus 12R smartphone caused quite a stir among buyers recently due to a storage type controversy. Many purchasers of the 256GB variant were disappointed to find out that the device did not have the promised UFS 4.0 storage as initially claimed by OnePlus. In response to the backlash, OnePlus has acknowledged its mistake and is offering full refunds to dissatisfied customers of the 256GB variant, with a deadline set for March 16.
When the OnePlus 12R was launched, OnePlus touted that the 256GB variant came with cutting-edge UFS 4.0-based storage. However, investigations revealed that the phone used UFS 3.1 flash storage instead. This revelation prompted OnePlus to issue an official statement correcting the misinformation and apologizing for the confusion.
Kinder Liu, the president and COO of OnePlus, reassured affected customers that they could seek recourse through customer service channels, including the option of a full refund until March 16, 2024. Liu clarified that while the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is indeed enhanced by Trinity Engine, it is, in fact, UFS 3.1 and not UFS 4.0 as previously claimed.
Currently, OnePlus offers the 12R in two storage configurations: an 8GB RAM with a 128GB storage base model and a high-end variant with 16GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, both utilizing UFS 3.1-type storage. Despite the storage controversy, the OnePlus 12R continues to be available for purchase at Rs 39,999 and Rs 45,999 for the respective variants.
For those who purchased the OnePlus 12R under the impression that it featured UFS 4.0 storage, there is a window of opportunity to return the device and receive a full refund. However, it’s important to note that any additional offers or promotions availed during the purchase may impact the refund amount, which is set at Rs 45,999.
