Samsung reveals its first NVMe portable SSD with the support of Thunderbolt 3

Samsung released a new portable SSD with a new performance level and trusted for external storage solutions.

The new Samsung Portable SSD X5 has a full metal body with a glossy and non-slip bottom mat texture. It includes a shock-resistant internal frame and rugged metal housing. The Samsung Portable SSD X5 has the Dynamic Thermal Guard technology and a feature which prevents from overheating. The X5 has 40 bandwidth and speeds of 2,800 MB/s, which is said to be 5.2 times faster than SATA-based portable SSDs and up to 25.5 times faster than external HHDs4. It can store 4K video editing, real-time 3D rendering, and high quality RAW files.  The portable SSD is designed for Macs and PCs with Thunderbolt 3 ports, means it is not compatible with a laptop that has USB port only.

Samsung confirmed that X5 will have three models which are 500GB model for $399.99, 1TB model for $699.99, and 2TB model for $1,399.99. The portable SSD will be available on September 3 with a three year warranty.
