SIGMA and Panasonic can now use the L-Mount standard of Leica

According to the information given by SIGMA, yesterday, at the company’s press conference in Cologne, Leica Camera AG declared together Panasonic and SIGMA their strategic partnership.

Due to the team up of the three partners, SIGMA and Panasonic will now have the right to use of Leica’s L-Mount standard which is for their own improvement. Because of the partnership, it will give more importance and promotion of the L-Mount technology to the photography’s world even more.

Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Leica Camera AG and majority holder, said that they are convinced that the company and the said new partners can realize mutual and sustainable growth for all their products.

Tetsuro Homma, Panasonic’s Senior Executive Officer and President of Appliances Company, stated “Our longstanding partnership with Leica has brought many high-performance and high-quality digital cameras to the market; fusing Leica’s superior optical technology with Panasonic’s digital technologies. Our partnership has enabled us to accelerate the development of excellent digital camera products, and the L-Mount alliance with Leica and SIGMA is a great example of such acceleration.”

Based on Kazuto Yamaki, SIGMA’s CEO, the partnership will help the company enhance mirrorless cameras benefiting from a short flange back.
