Sony had to make a PC gaming monitor because the PS5 isn’t enough

It’s no secret why Sony has created a PC gaming monitor that works so well with the PS5. The PC gaming business is too big to ignore and other monitor manufacturers are just making money. Sony didn’t exactly say those words, but I don’t need to know that that’s one of the reasons it decided to introduce two video game screens this week. Another reason is that Sony’s increased focus on services means that PS Plus will ultimately surpass the console itself. Over the last few years, getting your games in front of more people, rather than locking them up exclusively, has been a welcome change in strategy.

However, Sony is late to this party. Nintendo’s steam deck switch can work anywhere, and although you do not see Microsoft game monitors (actually managed) improving and bending your cloud skills, pay attention to the focus of the extended computer. Select Samsung TVs. For those who have an Xbox -wide band monthly, instant access to your phone or a wide range of games from the table is very low. It’s almost ridiculous not to try it. Sony’s new line of gaming expands the company’s reach to a more limited one. Because Sony has historically been more focused on controlling the living room, this is a big problem in the office or wherever you set up your computer. But it’s a strange contrast to Nintendo, Microsoft and Valve, which are now focusing on making it possible to play your games wherever you are.

Regardless of the success of Sony’s new M9 monitor, it’s interesting to think that the $ 899 screen (and the $ 529 model coming this winter) is Sony’s next big move to reach more gamers. It will certainly appeal to some gamers: those who appreciate a 27-inch screen over a 48-inch OLED or something larger with less impressive specifications for the same price of $ 1,000. But Sony seems to be trying to take advantage of inconvenient but ultimately solvable problems with its current console strategy. It is clear that Sony is in no way in a bad position because of the PS5. Between the end of 2020 and the end of 2021, 17.3 million consoles were sold. The PS5 became the first console to break the 33-month sale of the Nintendo Switch.

It’s been almost a year since Sony announced that its $ 499 PS5 would be a profit for the console, not a loss. Sony’s gaming business is doing well now. But there are elements of its business that Sony needs to improve in order to better meet players where they are: play anywhere, on any device. Fantasy monitors will in no way solve Sony’s gaming problem, but this is the best: Sony’s own solution to the demands of gamers who don’t want to sit on the couch and play on a console. People work far away. They sit at their desks in their home office all day. Selling these people a monitor that does normal computing tasks with gaming while also having normal features for PS5 owners puts Sony where people want to play, not where Sony thinks they are. Or at least that’s the plan.
