Globally, Instagram stands as one of the most widely used social networking applications. To share photos and videos as “Stories,” “Reels,” or just to put them in their feed, millions of users visit the network.

Along with the ability to tag other Instagram accounts, the app’s “Stories” feature lets users share updates.

But occasionally, after the “Story” has been posted, users might want to tag someone. With a few easy steps and an integrated tool, you can accomplish this on both Android and iOS (iPhones) smartphones.

How to add a tag to an Instagram Story that has already been uploaded?

  1. Start your device’s Instagram application.
  2. Select “Your Story” from the menu that appears in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Press and hold the “More” three-dot menu.
  4. Click on the “Add mentions” menu. You may look up the accounts you want to tag right here.
  5. Mark the accounts you want to use.
  6. Select “Add.”

How Using the Mention Sticker Is Different From Using the “Add Mentions” Button

As you may already be aware, you can use the Mention Sticker or just type a user’s username to tag others on your Instagram Story before you publish it. You can only use these two techniques prior to the Story being posted. Once the story has been uploaded, you can click the Add Mentions button.

One further distinction between these two approaches is that the Mention Sticker will show the account’s username on your Story, so anyone who sees it can press the sticker to see the tagged account. There will be no tagged accounts visible to visitors because the Add Mentions option will not show the username on the Story.

It’s preferable to tag your friends before you post the Story if you want people to tap and check out their profiles. For friends with private accounts or in situations when you fail to mention someone in advance, it is preferable to tag them afterwards using the Add Mentions button.

Making the switch to a private Instagram account could improve your online safety, but if you do so, your tagged friends won’t be able to repost your Stories. Instagram users now have an easier time tagging friends and family and allowing them to repost your photographs and content thanks to the Add Mentions option.
