The online version of Meta’s most recent Instagram app, Threads, is probably going to launch this week, according to a Wall Street Journal story from August 20.

Meta To Launch Web Version Of Threads Next Week: Report

In a thread on the microblogging service called Threads earlier this month, Zuckerberg announced that news features will be made accessible “coming in the next few weeks.” He stated, “This community is on the trajectory I expect to build a vibrant long-term app.”

However, according to sources quoted by WSJ, the “launch plans aren’t final and could change” for the additional capabilities, such as search and the web version. Last week, Mosseri said on Threads that Meta has been testing “an early version internally for a week or two,” but that it “needs some work” before being widely distributed.

The following tab and the option for users to confirm a connection with their Mastodon profile are recent additions to Threads’ feature set. According to the WSJ article, Threads began labeling state-controlled media organizations as of Thursday in an effort to curb misinformation and propaganda.
