Yesterday, Twitter announced the reason behind the shadow banning and its explanation why they were not doing it.

According to the post of Vijaya Gadde, Legal, Policy and Trust, and Safety Leader together with the Product Leader, Kayvon Beykpour, the shadow banning is not related to politics. They actually rate the tweets and results based on the relevance to users. Twitter is working this platform to serve a healthy public conversation. The app gives three options on how users will confirm if the actors are abusive or have spam reports. First, “Specific account properties that indicate authenticity” which includes confirmed email address. Second, “What actions you take on Twitter” where a user can find who they follow or who they retweet. Third, “How other accounts interact with you”, it can be a notification or information to know who unfollows, retweet, or blocks a user.

Gadde and Beykpour added “We do not shadow ban. You are always able to see the tweets from accounts you follow (although you may have to do more work to find them, like go directly to their profile). And we certainly don’t shadow ban based on political viewpoints or ideology.”

The company is focusing on the improvement of its systems better and smarter to all users.
