Hilly areas like Uttarakhand are extremely prone to environmental disasters such as floods, landslides, earthquakes etc. The disaster management teams try to strengthen the disaster response system. The Uttarakhand Disaster Management Department wants to use the most advanced Artificial Intelligence digital tech.
USDMA to review the result of creating an automatic disaster response system
The USDMA sets up a platform to review the result of creating an automatic response system. The team wants to develop an automatic alert system that could activate and trigger all the stakeholders. They also plan to activate agencies in the event of a crisis.
Girish Joshi who is a senior consultant in USDMA has also shared his concern. Their main goal is to deploy the best tech to prevent the impact of natural disasters. They wish to improve and combine the disaster recovery process in Uttarakhand.
For the unversed, about 15 people lost their lives in the heavy rains, this year. Landslides were responsible for 12 of these 15 deaths. In the upcoming time, there could be many disaster agencies to use this tech for saving people’s life. Thus, all things depend on USDMA’s trial for the tech.
Effective communication is important during the state of crisis
The government is also planning to use GPS and GIS technology more effectively in the interim to reduce reaction times. Another official stated that their next goal is to establish a continuous network of communication for emergency situations.
An official from the USDMA states that “effective communication” is the key to link people. Through communication, stranded individuals can connect with first responders, and their family members. Hence, this could be really helpful.
Can Advanced AI really help in disaster management?
This is a big question to answer. It’s important to note that advanced AI systems are able to predict future environmental disasters before they occur. All the credits go to their capacity for large-scale data analysis. This is next to impossible for a man. Hence, AI could cause reduction in the number of casualties.
The International Rescue Committee has also used AI in a number of initiatives. This entails improving the way in which services are provided to refugees. They also want to develop tailored learning opportunities for displaced children.
Even now, drones help disaster management teams to reach the location where humans can’t reach. Like drones and AI, officials can also use other advanced equipments to help people. With this, the disaster relief system can also become better.
There is a chance that other disaster prone areas’ management could also deploy this advanced AI. Let’s see if this tech will be helpful in preventing loss to human life or property or not.
