WhatsApp is rolling out ‘Passkeys’ for iPhone

If you are an iPhone user, you can now access WhatsApp with Passkeys that allows you to log in with Face ID or Touch ID.

WhatsApp is now expanding its Passkeys feature for iPhone users. This will make it easier for them to log into a device without a one time password (OTP) which is SMS based. The feature was first introduced for the Android smartphones. However, it is now available to be used by OS users in phases.

Once you enable the Passkeys option on WhatsApp, iPhone users can use TouchID, FaceID or the passcode set by them to log into their WhatsApp account. According to WhatsApp, you will be able to experience a more secure way of logging into WhatsApp through Passkeys than using the conventional OTP-based method. Even if there is a network issue, users can definitely log in through Passkeys unlike the OTP-based method.

Passkeys lets the users access their WhatsApp account without requiring external verification. This is a great step towards protecting the privacy of WhatsApp users.

How can you set Passkeys for WhatsApp?

To set Passkeys for WhatsApp, click on Settings and then go to Account. You can see a Passkeys option under this. Click on ‘Passkeys’ and over there configuration is done, users can use either their FaceID or TouchID for accessing their WhatsApp account easily.

Several other applications and social media platforms have been adopting Passkeys besides WhatsApp. This is because the feature promises a password – free future and reduces the risk of data theft. Passkeys have been implemented by Google as well for Google account did you saying privacy issues since data like Face ID or fingerprint details are stored locally on the device used by an individual.
