First discovered by computer science student Jane Manchun Wong on her account, Twitter appears to be developing a new direct messaging feature that lets you send ‘secret’ encrypted messages.

The unlaunched feature was found in Twitter’s Android application package under a “Secret conversation” option. Other messaging apps such as Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp already feature an encrypted message option for users who want to send sensitive information.

Twitter had been reportedly working on an encrypted messaging feature back in 2013, but stopped development for unknown reasons.
