Kicking off WWDC 2018 is Apple’s announcement that its infotainment system CarPlay (which admittedly, hasn’t changed much since its launch) will now provide support for mapping apps such as Google Maps and Waze.

With an exception to navigation apps Apple CarPlay already supported third-party apps, but because of the existence of their own mapping app, Apple Maps, they had previously locked out similar apps. Compared to the much popular Waze and Google Maps, Apple Maps wasn’t really a favorite among Apple CarPlay users. So it’s good that the company heeded their customer’s complaints and added support to other navigation apps.

The updated Apple CarPlay will arrive along with the iOS 12.
